Community Liaison, General Operative & Kitchen Assistant


Role Summary:
This is a unique opportunity to live and work on the offshore island of Inishturk, Co. Mayo.
The successful candidate will take on a multi-faceted role within Inishturk Community Club,
encompassing responsibilities as Community Liaison, General Operative, and Kitchen
Assistant. The role is ideal for someone who is community-minded, adaptable, and keen to
contribute to the sustainability and vibrancy of island life.


Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Community Liaison
- Support the delivery of community projects, programmes, and events.
- Act as a point of contact for residents, visitors, and stakeholders.
- Assist with communications, newsletters, and social media updates.
- Help coordinate volunteer activities and community groups.


General Operative
- Provide day-to-day operational support across community facilities.
- Assist with maintenance, caretaking, and setup for events and activities.
- Carry out basic repairs, cleaning, and general upkeep of facilities.
- Support visiting contractors and service providers as needed.


Kitchen Assistant
- Assist with food preparation and service in the Community Club kitchen.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in line with HACCP and food safety standards.
- Support catering for community events, visitors, and staff.
- Manage stock, supplies, and kitchen organisation.


Operations
- Work flexibly across all areas as required.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Undertake training relevant to the role.
- Contribute positively to the life and sustainability of Inishturk Island.


Requirements
- Must be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment under the Pobal scheme.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work flexibly across a variety of tasks.
- Ability to work as part of a small, committed team.
- Previous experience in community work, maintenance, or hospitality an advantage but not
essential.

**Salary:** €25,500 per annum
**Scheme:** This is a Pobal-supported role. Applicants must be in receipt of a qualifying
social welfare payment.

Inishturk is a small beautiful island, 5km x 2.5km, located 9 miles (14.5km) off the west coast of Mayo. It rises boldly from the wild North Atlantic in wall-like cliffs to the northwest and steep hills to the north on which stands the ruins of the old signal tower 688 ft above sea level.

The main embarkation point to Inishturk is Roonagh Pier, near Louisburgh, Co. Mayo.
O'Grady's Ferries operate a daily service to the Island.
