Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct has been created to support the culture of dignity and respect that is central to life on Inishturk Island. It applies to all people on the premises or involved in activities run by the Inishturk Development Company CLG, including members of the public and staff members. It has been developed by the Board of Trustees, who may amend this Code of Conduct at any time.

1. Introduction

When entering the premises of Inishturk Community Club or taking part in an activity of Inishturk Development Company CLG, you agreed to adhere to the Code of Conduct set out by the board of Inishturk Development Company CLG and understand your responsibilities related to it.

In summary, this states that

1. All people should be treated with dignity and respect at all times. 

Any type of harassment; including physical, sexual, verbal or other, is prohibited and will constitute a breach of this Code of Conduct. This can include actions, language, written words or objects that create an intimidating or hostile environment.

 

2. Any breaches of this Code of Conduct will be treated seriously

Should a member of staff witness a breach of this code of conduct, they are obliged to record it and have the right to ask anyone to leave the premises or activity immediately. We are committed to treating reports seriously and investigating them thoroughly. To report a breach, please contact the Club Manager directly or at club@inishturkisland.com or the Development Co-ordinator at development@inishturkisland.com. All contacts with be treated in confidence.

 

3. Breaches of this Code of Conduct can result in barring

Any breach of the Code of Conduct can result in disciplinary action up to, and including, barring from the Community club premises, activities of Inishturk Development Company or both, for a minimum period of six months.

2. Dignity and Respect

Members should treat all people with dignity and respect at all times. Any type of victimisation, or harassment; including physical, sexual, verbal or other, is prohibited and can result in disciplinary action up to, and including, barring from the Community club premises, activities of Inishturk Development Company or both.

Victimisation and harassment can include actions, language, written words or objects that create an intimidating or hostile environment, such as:

  • Making anyone feel unduly uncomfortable 

  • Refusing to co-operate with a member of staff who has duties to perform

  • Yelling at or humiliating someone

  • Physical violence or intimidation

  • Unwanted sexual advances, invitations or comments

  • Visual displays such as derogatory or sexually-oriented pictures or gestures

  • Spreading malicious rumor or gossip

  • Withholding necessary information or purposefully giving the wrong information

  • Intimidating someone

  • Physical conduct including assault or unwanted touching

 

Should a member of staff judge that someone has infringed the code of conduct, they have the right to ask anyone them the premises or activity immediately. 

3. Reporting/Speaking Up

The Inishturk Community Club encourages all members to ask questions and raise issues without fear of retaliation and is committed to treating reports seriously and investigating them thoroughly.

Members should report suspected unethical, illegal or suspicious behavior immediately. The Inishturk Community Club does not tolerate retaliation against anyone who makes a good faith report of suspected misconduct. All reports will be recorded and dealt with in confidence.

 

To report a concern or incident:

  • In the first instance, make the Development Coordinator or Club Manager aware of the incident or concern

    • Club Manager - If it’s in relation to the Community Club premises eg Bar, Restaurant or community activities at the hall. Contact directly in person or via email at club@inishturkisland.com

    • Development Co-ordinator - If it’s in relation to any other matter about ICC CLG or wider community issues on the island. Contact directly in person or via email at development@inishturkisland.com

  • If the issue cannot be resolved informally you will be offered the opportunity to submit a formal feedback/ grievance or incident report form request a formal response.

  • If you are not satisfied that the issue has been addressed or resolved, your issue form will be passed on to the board for discussion.

  • Board are presented with the issue at next board meeting and will issue a formal response on behalf of ICC CLG

  • In exceptional circumstances where you have attempted to resolve the issue through the regular process, or have grounds to believe the process is not suitable for your issue, you can submit your issue directly to chairperson@inishturkisland.com

4. Legislation

Members agree to abide by all relevant Irish legislation and the food and alcohol licensing conditions while on premises.  This includes, but may not be limited to:

  • Smoking in the designated smoking area or more than 5m from the nearest entrance

  • Not being inebriated when entering the premises

  • Not bringing alcohol to an event where the Community Centre bar is open

5. Breaches of the Code of Conduct

The Inishturk Community Club will treat all breaches of this code in accordance with the severity of the breach.  

  • Person will be asked to comply with the Code of Conduct

  • Person will be asked to leave the premises

  • Person will be issued a written warning

  • The board may bar the person for a minimum term of 6 months

6. Code of Conduct Acknowledgement

When entering the premises of Inishturk Community Club or taking part in an activity fo Inishturk Development Company CLG, you agreed that:

  • You have read the entire code of conduct and understand your responsibilities related to it

  • You have had the opportunity to ask questions to clarify any unclear aspects of the code

  • You agree to abide by its principles

  • You agree to report to the Inishturk Community Club any violations of the code

  • You agree to cooperate in any investigations of violations of the code

Inishturk is a small beautiful island, 5km x 2.5km, located 9 miles (14.5km) off the west coast of Mayo. It rises boldly from the wild North Atlantic in wall-like cliffs to the northwest and steep hills to the north on which stands the ruins of the old signal tower 688 ft above sea level.

The main embarkation point to Inishturk is Roonagh Pier, near Louisburgh, Co. Mayo.
