Inishturk Traditional Music Festival June 19th, 20th & 21st 2009
A summer of Traditional music begins with the much anticipated Traditional Weekend on June 19th, 20th & 21st. Since its inception in 2001 out trad festival has gone from strength to strength with some of Irelands finest having played here, Seán Keane, Matt Keane, Gary Quinn, Johnny Connolly, Joe Burke to name but a few. This year promises to be no different with Johnny Connolly and Mattie Joe Shéamús opening the weekend on Friday night, June 19th. On Saturday afternoon a set dancing workshop will take place from 2pm – 5pm in the Community Club for all our dancing enthusiasts. On Saturday night we have a host of musicians and a great night of music, song and dance is promised. Again on Sunday afternoon a farewell trad session in the Club.

Our Regatta weekend is a must for sport enthusiasts of all ages. The annual sports day will take place on Saturday, August 8th with a variety of events, e.g. bag race, egg & spoon, penalty shoot out and many more. The final event of the day is by now a historic event with a local football match. This match is very competitive as the teams are selected by age category, under 25’s v over 25’s. Many of the players featured on the Pride of the Parish programme, which is a must see.
Sunday brings you live music down at the pier to accompany the Currach Racing. Participants from neighbouring islands and the mainland will take part in the many events which will commence at 1pm. There will also be land based events for men, women and children. Various prizes on the day for the winners. The day will end with live music in the Community Club.
