Flora and Fauna
Ornithology enthusiasts will be enthralled by the number of bird sanctuaries on the island cliffs.

The Spotted Rock-Rose (
Tuberaria guttata) a rear endangered plant is found here.
Scuba Diving
The island is ideal for deep sea diving and boat trips to the neighboring islands can easily be organised.
Swimming
On the eastern side of the island are
’Tranaun’ and
’Curraun’ - sandy beaches that boast the clearest blue waters and some of the best views in Europe. Completely sheltered by coves, they are ideal for young and old alike to indulge in a bit of swimming.
Hicking
The rugged island landscape will delight the walker.
You can ramble around the island at your leisure and explore the many small country lanes that span the Island.
There are
two recognised walks on the Island. The shorter one, the inner walk is a nice easy saunter, and a longer cliff walk through the commonage is more challenging.
Fisching
Fishing for the
Inishturk lobster and the Island’s huge edible
crabs are the main commercial fishing activity on the island, these along with the many coastal fish are served fresh in the island’s B & B’s
The waters off the west coast of Mayo offer excellent bait for angling enthusiasts.
Boat trips can be arranged on the Island.
